Ohio HB 189 drops ‘pit bull’ from vicious dog list, adds due process for animal owners
Ohio dog owners have a chance to eliminate the country’s only state-wide breed specific restrictions, hold dog owners accountable for the actions of pets that are dangerous to the community, and establish due process requirements for owners whose pets have been accused of aggressive behavior.
HB 189 drops the state’s restrictions on pit bulls, provides for hearings for dog owners whose pets have been accused of dangerous behavior; authorizes appointment of hearing officers who have received training in canine behavior; and offers a detailed description of required confinement for vicious and dangerous dogs.
This bill deserves the active support of every dog owner in Ohio. It has been assigned to the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee; please contact the sponsors and committee members listed below to support this groundbreaking bill.
